Nothing here guarantees your photo will be accepted. The issuing authority makes that decision, and only they can. This tool measures your photo against requirements those authorities have published; it does not speak for them.

Not affiliated with any government

This site is independent. It is not operated by, endorsed by, affiliated with, or connected to any government, passport agency, embassy, consulate or visa authority anywhere. Where a country is named, that is a description of whose requirements are being referenced, not a claim of any relationship with them.

Government names and links appear so you can check the source yourself. They do not imply any approval of this site.

No warranty of acceptance

The automated checks are exactly that: automated. A photo that passes every check on this site may still be refused, for reasons the tool cannot see — the photo not resembling you closely enough, a rule that changed after the requirements here were last read, a rule the authority applies but does not publish, printing or paper problems, or a caseworker reaching a different judgement.

The reverse is also true. A photo that fails a check here may be perfectly acceptable, particularly where the tool is applying a tolerance of its own because the authority publishes no number.

The site is provided as is, without warranties of any kind. To the extent the law allows, the operator is not liable for rejected applications, missed deadlines, travel that did not happen, or costs of any kind arising from use of this site.

Not a substitute for official guidance

Every country page links to the authority’s own guidance and shows the date that page was last read. Read it. Requirements change without notice — Germany changed how photos may be supplied entirely in May 2025, and the United States removed a long-standing measurement from its guidance — and this site can only reflect what was true when it was last checked.

Where a requirement could not be confirmed from an official source, the site says so rather than filling the gap. Those gaps are real. They mean you need to check the authority’s page, not that anything is acceptable.

Acceptable use

Use this tool for your own photo, or for someone you are helping with their consent. Do not use it to produce a photograph intended to misrepresent anyone’s identity.

Editing your photo

Several authorities reject photographs altered with software, including edited backgrounds. Where that is known, the optional background replacement is not offered at all. Where it is offered, it is your decision and your responsibility to check the rules that apply to you first. Cropping and resizing are ordinary and permitted almost everywhere; repainting a background is not.
